Farzana Akram

Farzana is a family law specialist, with great skill and experience in dealing with complex and emotive cases involving children and matrimonial finances. She has an approachable and understanding manner and is passionate about her clients. She is known for her 'feisty' approach.

Farzana can be instructed directly by members of the public, without the need of a solicitor, in all areas of family law. Farzana is on the Bar Council Public Access Register and is therefore accredited to provide advice and representation directly to individuals.

Care and supervision
Farzana acts for local authorities, the Official Solicitor, parents and guardians.  Her experience includes cases involving serious domestic violence and neglect, child sexual abuse, non-accidental injuries including ‘baby shaking’, placements outside the jurisdiction and cases involving significant religious and cultural elements. The parents she represents are often vulnerable and have significant psychological difficulties – Farzana has great skill and experience in dealing with such complex and emotive cases.  She appears in a range of courts including the High Court.

Residence and contact
Farzana acts for parents in residence, shared residence and contact disputes. These include difficult Children Act matters ranging from 'hostile' parents to removal from the jurisdiction. These cases have often involved parents who are ‘emotionally highly charged’ and vulnerable. She has a unique and caring ability in guiding her clients through the court process and achieving the best possible outcome for them. She is widely respected within her profession for her expertise and forthrightness.

Farzana deals with domestic abuse cases which often involve several overlapping areas of law.  She is able to advise on immediate issues with an ability to safeguard and preserve the clients' longer term interests.

Farzana represents parties in all financial matters. The cases have involved distribution of assets including pensions, spousal maintenance, lump sum orders, transfer of properties, transfer of shares and clean breaks.
