Barrister (Call Date: 2006)
Matthew returned to East Anglian Chambers in September 2018 after five years (including time in employed practice) as a bursar and fellow of a Cambridge college and the chair of the Bursars’ Legal and Employment committee.
BSc, MA (Lond), MA (Cantab)
Before being called to the Bar Matthew was an officer in the British Army, and he still serves in the Reserve.
Until being recalled to the army for a year as a reservist and then switching careers Matthew previously had a flourishing criminal practice, appearing in Crown Courts and the Court of Appeal. In 2011, the Legal 500 remarked on his ‘notable Court Martial practice’.
Matthew aims to rebuild his criminal practice and welcomes instructions in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts, particularly in relation to drugs, violence and motoring matters.
He is also available to advise on matters relating to his time in Cambridge, including Health and Safety, data protection and freedom of information matters, particularly in relation to educational institutions.
