Simon Gladwell

Simon is a dedicated barrister with 20 years experience, and is recognised in the ‘Legal 500’. He defends at all levels throughout East Anglia and London, specialising in crime, quasi-crime and prison law. He also prosecutes (Grade 3).

Simon has vast experience in all aspects of general crime, sexual offences, drug offences, violent offences, fraud and corporate crime, proceeds of crime & money laundering, regulatory law, and road traffic law.

He also has a particular interest in appeal cases, whether crime or prison law based.

Simon represents clients at all levels of being prosecuted, in all courts, including in Courts Martial. He can also advise clients before they have even been interviewed by a Prosecuting Authority in relation to a suspected offence.

Courts Martial
Simon is able to provide advice and representation to clients in the military services who face allegations of criminal offences. Recently he successfully argued that a soldier who had stolen from the army was able to remain in the army.

Simon has prosecuted and defended many such cases and when defending has often negotiated results favourable to his client.

Violent Offences
Whatever the nature or extent of the violence alleged, and however serious, Simon is able to present the best possible case whether to trial or in mitigation for the purposes of sentence. Recently he represented a man at trial at Birmingham Crown Court who was accused of conspiracy to rob a rival motorcycle gang.

Simon has experience prosecuting various types offences and for different prosecuting authorities.  
He also has experience defending many different offences which fall under this heading such as animal welfare.

Motoring & Road Traffic Law
Simon represents all drivers, whether driving for private or for business use.  He helps new drivers to stay on the road and drivers at risk of losing their livelihoods to keep their licence.  He has vast experience dealing with the full range of road traffic offences whether in the magistrates court or in the Crown Court, from relatively minor traffic offences such as using a mobile phone, to more serious cases such as death by dangerous driving. 

Prison Law
Simon represents prisoners at adjudications, at Parole Board hearings in relation to Lifers and other serving prisoners, He has also been involved in a number of cases involving Judicial Review of MAPPA decisions and also of Probation licence conditions.

  • Advising on an appeal against conviction and sentence in a conspiracy to supply class B drugs.
  • Advising on an appeal against conviction & sentence in relation to a man currently serving a sentence of imprisonment for public protection following convictions for unlawful sexual intercourse.
