Ray Smith

After a career as a Navigator in the Royal Air Force (where he first experienced courts martial – as a decision-maker) Ray Smith prepared for civilian life by qualifying and then practising as a solicitor for some years as a partner in a mid-Norfolk firm. There he covered a wide range of work but, attracted by concentrating upon advocacy, he re-qualified as a barrister in 1991 and has been a member of East Anglian Chambers ever since. Although instructed from time to time in courts martial Ray does very little crime now, instead focussing on family law. If not the only member of the Bar qualified, and practising, as a Notary Public he must be one of very few.
