Richard WoodAs a
traditional, common law
barrister, Richard has a broad experience in both criminal and civil
disciplines. Richard’s Crown Court experience includes rape, murder, conspiracy and fraud, representing both the prosecution and defence. Richard regularly receives instructions from local authorities involving health and safety, and nuisance related offences. Richard’s civil practice includes negligence, employment, contract and property disputes. He has a particular interest in personal injury including health and safety at work claims (including industrial diseases and ‘stress at work’ actions) and repetitive strain injuries. Conditional fees can be negotiated in appropriate cases. Those interested should discuss the matter with his clerk upon contacting Chambers. PARTICULAR AREAS OF INTERESTRecently, Richard has appeared in a ‘well reported case’ before the England and Wales Cricket Board Disciplinary Tribunal, where he successfully represented a cricketer accused of improper behaviour towards children. The Appellant was a local Norwich P.E teacher who had lost his job as a consequence of the disclosures. Richard appears regularly before a variety of professional and sporting disciplinary panels and tribunals. Having recently lectured on the subject, Richard is an expert on the new age discrimination regulations. With so many more Defendants receiving indeterminate sentences of imprisonment as a consequence of the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 2003, the question of ‘prisoner rights’ has become very important. Richard is currently involved in Judicially Reviewing the lawfulness of a prisoner’s continuing detention under discretionary life sentence in the absence of proper provision for him to complete rehabilitation courses in prison. In addition, Richard regularly represents serving prisoners at Parole hearings and in other civil litigation including negligence actions against the Ministry of Justice. Richard has recently appeared against the Ministry of Defence in a multi-day action involving allegations of vicarious liability/negligence. An Air Cadet had been indecently assaulted by an Air Cadet Officer. The case involved the application of the principles set out in the case of LISTER –v– HESLEY HALL. Richard is a keen footballer and cricketer, appearing for Bawdeswell FC and Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers CC. |
