Another new Lord Chancellor

In today's cabinet reshuffle David Lidington has been promoted and his post as Secretary of State for Justice has been filled by David Gauke, until now Work & Pensions Secretary.
Another new Lord Chancellor
More used to financial jobs in Government, principally at the Treasury but more recently at the DWP, David Gauke (MP for South West Hertfordshire since 2005) is a local boy.  Educated at Northgate High School in Ipswich, Suffolk, he later attended St Edmund Hall, Oxford, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in law in 1993, and the College of Law in Chester where he graduated in legal practice in 1995.  He worked as a trainee solicitor with Richards Butler from 1995, being admitted as a solicitor in 1997.  From 1999 to 2005, he was a solicitor in the financial services group at corporate law firm Macfarlanes.

Mr Gauke is the first lawyer to be appointed Lord Chancellor since Kenneth Clarke MP, and the first solicitor to hold the office.
