East Anglian Chambers a Leading Set in Legal 500 2019

05 January 2019
We are pleased to announce that in the latest round of Legal 500 announcements East Anglian Chambers has retained its status as a ‘Leading set’ of barristers, with a number of members being recognised for expertise in their respective fields. We would like to thank all those that have supported and worked with us in 2018 and look forward to assisting you further in 2019.

The publication summarised its assessment of Chambers overall by stating:

“Chancery and commercial disputes are a cornerstone area of instruction for East Anglian Chambers; criminal law is another key area of expertise. In 2018 Carolyn Rothwell was appointed to the bench. The ‘excellent’ senior clerk Fraser McLaren leads the ‘very helpful’ team.”

Four members of the Commercial and Chancery team were noted as outstanding individuals. Andrew Marsden remains a dominant force in commercial litigation and was identified by the Legal 500 for his “authoritative presence” and that he “is brilliant with clients.” Simon Redmayne (head of the commercial litigation team in Chambers) was marked out for his “engaging manner” in his high-end commercial practice, whilst Marcus Croskell was noted for having “notable expertise in contractual disputes.”  Nicholas Michael was listed again in the directory and identified as being “formidable on his feet.”  John Ratledge in our Personal Injury team was noted for being “a strong cross-examiner.” Graham Sinclair (head of Chambers and leader of the Property team) was noted for inspiring “confidence in clients.”

From our Criminal team, Lynne Shirley and Simon Gladwell were picked out as leading barristers in their fields. Simon (head of the criminal team) was identified for his “expertise in sexual offences, drugs, fraud and serious violence cases.  Lynne Shirley is “Highly recommended for representing vulnerable clients.”  The team was bolstered in 2018 by the return after a lengthy sabbatical of Matthew Edwards.

The Family team was also recommended in this edition of the Legal 500 directory and is reported as seeing “an increase in family finance cases; members are also adept at handling cases involving non-accidental injuries, care proceedings and international matters.” Of Kate Miller it was noted that she is “Robust, skilled on her feet, and speaks the clients’ language.”

If you would like to instruct any one of the barristers named above, or others from their teams, please contact the clerking team on 01473 214481 or email the clerks.
