Shereen Dyer LL B (Westminster)


After graduating in 1997 but prior to qualifying for the Bar Shereen lived and worked abroad for a number of years.  Having qualified in 2004 she joined chambers in 2007. Shereen combines intellectual ability with excellent interpersonal skills to ensure that both lay and professional clients receive a high level of service on every occasion; and she believes that her background gives her an insight into the particular needs of a diverse client base.

 

Criminal Practice

Shereen Dyer practises across East Anglia on a regular basis as defence and prosecution and accepts instructions in London and across the South Eastern Circuit. She appears in the Crown Court, Magistrates and Youth Courts, and in the Court of Appeal; her areas of acquired experience including :

  • Dishonesty offences – including benefit fraud, burglary, theft and deception
  • Drugs Offences – including conspiracies to supply, production of cannabis and undercover operations
  • Perverting the course of justice – including the making of false statements and false rape allegations
  • Proceeds of Crime Act confiscation proceedings
  • Racially aggravated offences
  • Road traffic offences from Magistrates to Crown Court
  • Violent offences – including s.18 GBH, arson, domestic violence and public order offences

Shereen has experience of a broad range of legal issues that arise during the course of a trial, including the following specific matters :

  • Automatism
  • Fitness to plead/stand trial
  • Abuse of process
  • Appeals to Court of Appeal against sentence and conviction
  • PII applications

In addition Shereen regularly deals with bad character and hearsay applications, submissions of no case to answer and identification points and s.78 and s.76 PACE applications. Through her role as Independent Legal Advisor to CPS Essex Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel Shereen has specific insight in prosecuting and defending race and other hate crime.
