How to instruct us

While the bulk of the work undertaken by members of East Anglian Chambers comes from instructions received on the traditional basis from firms of solicitors or local authority in-house legal teams we are also able to accept (mainly advisory) work on a “licensed access” basis from various professions or bodies that have applied to and been accepted by the Bar Council.

Most members are also qualified and willing to accept instructions to advise or represent clients – whether businesses or individuals – on a direct access basis in accordance with the Bar’s Public Access scheme. To instruct a barrister on this basis please complete the quick enquiry form below or phone our clerking team on 01473 214481. If phoning, it helps if you have the required information to hand.

For further information about instructing a barrister through Public Access click here for the Bar Standards Board’s Guidance for Lay Clients.

Professional, licensed access and/or lay clients (as appropriate) may contact chambers to obtain a quotation for legal services. A quotation must be provided if sufficient information has been supplied by the client and the barrister, or another barrister in chambers, would be willing to undertake the legal service. Quotations (whether by reference to a fixed fee, an hourly rate or a combination of both) will be provided within a reasonable time period, and in clear and readily understandable terms.

Access to buildings — While the age of our various buildings may add to their charm the presence of steps, winding staircases and facilities above ground floor level do not assist with ease of access for those who are not fully mobile or have sight or balance issues. If you have any such concerns please speak with one of our clerks and, if necessary, arrangements can be made for a meeting to be held at your solicitors’ office, a local hotel or even at your own premises.

Thank you for stepping in at short notice. Not only have you grasped the issues very quickly, you have managed to wade through the trivia and get to the very nub of the matter.”
